The ship set sail ©

I can’t believe you didn’t call me,

Would it have hurt to say my name?

The truth is a heavy parcel

When the receiver doesn’t claim

This isn’t a war to win things

Nor retreat to escape the blame

It’s the lives that we are living

And I want to live again

I asked you to follow

I wanted things the same

I never meant to hurt you

I never meant for pain

I’m blinded by your silence

I’m sick of deaf replies

The punishment you’ve handed me

Isn’t deserving of the crimes

I ask for forgiveness

Of my rotting trail

Cos after all I’m sorry….

That the ship set sail

Did the hurt that it caused you

Compare to my tormented head

Is everything forgotten?

Like the good things that were said

Happiness still echoes

In the sanctuary of my bed

But it is cold and lonely

Like a coffin for the dead

I asked you to follow

I wanted things the same

I never meant to hurt you

I never meant for pain

I’m blinded by your silence

I’m sick of deaf replies

The punishment you’ve handed me

Isn’t deserving of the crimes

I ask for forgiveness

Of my rotting trail

Cos after all I’m sorry….

That the ship set sail

Did you think I wouldn’t suffer?

Did you think I would disappear?

Did you think I could be wiped away

Like every careless tear?

I’m sorry to disappoint you

You can’t throw me off a pier

I’m not a rotting apple

Or an undrunk beer

I asked you to follow

I wanted things the same

I never meant to hurt you

I never meant for pain

I’m blinded by your silence

I’m sick of deaf replies

The punishment you’ve handed me

Isn’t deserving of the crimes

All I ask is forgiveness

Of my rotting trail

Cos after all I’m sorry….

That the ship set sail

The hospital was no hope

My heart they couldn’t mend

The court it couldn’t contest

You didn’t even contend;

I’m not a plotter here to plunder

Nor a reaper for revenge,

I’m a reader of this story

And I’m looking for an end

I asked you to follow

I wanted things the same

I never meant to hurt you

I never meant for pain

I’m blinded by your silence

I’m sick of deaf replies

The punishment you’ve handed me

Isn’t deserving of the crimes

All I ask is forgiveness

Of my rotting trail

Cos after all I’m sorry….

That the ship set sail.
