Judgement ©

As subconscious sounds stir me from my sleepless slumber

Shadowy hands of conscience beckon me from the bed

To stand and see his vacant gaze, staring at me

‘How dare you look, how dare you return

How dare you show your soulless self’

Spitting curses and summoning all power into my fist of righteousness

‘You shall be judged, and judged you are

For what I know you have done and for what I think you did,

Stand there tall and proud, silence hanging on your lips,

Suffer no remorse, your empty self which mimics life

Full of burden and worry, that hangs on us to anchor our sins

Stand without a care despite your guilt,

For what you could have done, and what you will do again

You empty fool which knows not which way to turn,

Certain only in that you will return, in some shape or form.’

Perhaps next time you will have the choice.

I turned from him.  Away, from the image I detest,

Donning jacket and grabbing sticks, I crept

Out onto the cold, damp, wooded path

Where I faced Lucifer himself, flame in eye,

And from the window, she saw –

Guiltily, I palmed my true sin.
